Unlike everyone else who chose their courses by heart, Ms. Javier did not choose to be in this course. Personally, she had a difficult time in choosing what suited her, including her likes and dislikes. She even stated that in comparison to other people, there will always be times of difficulty in decision-making. Because Ms. Javier had a hard time deciding a course, she asked for her mother and sister’s help. Her mother and sister influenced her to take up Occupational Therapy at Liceo de Cagayan University. Additionally, Ms. Javier made a statement on why OT/PT is perfect for her, she stated that “through this course, I could gain experience and develop the skill to cope with challenges. Also, I was curious about this course so I decided to choose Occupational Therapy.”
She was good at adjusting with remote classes, although it gave her a hard time. She coped with online classes through being with a circle of people who can contribute to her learning and help her communicate through online platforms. Ms. Javier even said that sleeping and eating good food was one way for her to release her stress. Furthermore, she stated that if she were to make a mistake, she would contemplate on that mistake and then move on, because taking it too seriously would cause stress and anxiety, leading to depression and an unhealthy mental status.
Ms. Javier had her share of bumps during her college life. Those bumps included people who were misled about the works of an Occupational Therapist. Some said that being an OT student is easy, but in reality, it is the same as many other medical college courses that people take; challenging as they come. It has its own focus and specialities. What others see of Occupational Therapy is a mere fraction of what the students and professionals really go through day-by-day. The more that we tackle a topic or subject, the more we understand what it really is. Ms. Javier’s goal for this school year is to pass 2nd year in the OT course and move up to the higher years. She asks the Almighty for guidance and motivation in achieving so.
As a college student, her main goal is to graduate from her course and become a future OTRP. Also, she wants to gain more experience in the professional OT field. Lastly, she wanted the younger years to know that they should stay motivated and never give up. She also wanted to let them know that the problem they are facing now is only the beginning and that they should be knowledgeable about balancing their studies and themselves.
