World PT Day Countdown

Hey Jaguars!

It's that time of the year again, and no I'm not talking about the “Ber” months or Christmas season coming soon. World PT Day 2021 is fast approaching, and the SBO officers of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences have planned a variety of activities to countdown to our event, starting on September 1, 2021 and will be shared with the student body as part of our department’s World Physiotherapy Day celebrations. Since our students are known as “the few and the proud,” this event will surely make us closer than we were.

Here is a list of our countdown activities;

September 1st marks the start of our countdown and we will be posting an Activity Diary from the World PT website, that will be done from September 1-8. This Activity Diary can be to keep track of their activities, including rest and sleep. Our students may find a copy of the activity diary in the CRS Bulletin Board Google Classroom, and the rest of our readers may download a PDF copy from the link provided. https://world.physio/toolkit/world-pt-day-2021-activity-diary

On September 3rd, the Social Media team will be posting our CRS Bingo Activity on our Instagram. Now, this is not your typical bingo game because this will allow you to communicate with other CRS students in order to get to know them better, share your experiences, and meet people with similar experiences. You’d be surprised with just how much we can relate to each other even through online learning.

September 5th will definitely be a day to look forward to as we will be posting a Myotomes and Dermatomes dance, which will be performed by Matt Seno, Frianca Gado, Roefia Adrales, and Shara Bontilao as part of our World PT Day Countdown. The video will be shared on all our social media platforms, as well as the CRS' official Facebook page.

Our four dancers were kind enough to share their own experiences and the reasons that they enjoy participating in such activities. Here is what they had to say when asked about what inspired them to dance;

Matt Seno says, “I am still dancing because I believe ‘Life is a dance,’ not ‘dance is life,’ but I see life as a dance where Life should be expressed not just in words but in actions with pure intentions. Therefore dance is helping me in strengthening my identity; my life.”

Roefia Adrales shared her thoughts that “Someone out there is also afraid to shine because of judgements, bullies etc., but it will only take a little push for them to do so. People even often say to me that they also started to join dance workshops regardless of age or weight, because if I can do it, they can do it too.”

Two of our dancers have also expressed about how this dance can greatly benefit PT students;

Shara Bontilao stated that “Aside from it will help us PT students to memorize the myotomes and dermatomes in our body, it's sort a lifelong knowledge that we can bring even after we graduate and become professional PTs”

Frianca then said “I know some of us are tactile learners, like we learn things when we do it ourselves. I myself is a tactile-visual learner and by doing the dance, I think it would be easier for me, for us, to memorize the dermatomes and myotomes also if you are visual learner, it would also easier when you learn the dance because you can visualize the steps.”

Hearing their inspirations, and how much this dance can help us students has really shown that it’s an activity to look forward to.

That just about sums up the upcoming events and announcements. We’d like to encourage our PT students to use the hashtag #worldPTday2021 when posting about World PT day. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our different countdown activities, and remember to log in your activity log everyday. We hope you enjoy the different activities leading up to the celebration next week. Take care, stay safe, and see you all on the big day, Jaguars! Let the countdown begin!
