Hello Jaguars! This past weekend on Saturday September 25, we all were able to experience the online Acquaintance Party that allowed everyone in the CRS department to meet, greet, and mingle with one another. The event was done in hopes to strengthen the bond between all year levels and a chance to get to know our colleagues and faculty members from the comfort of our homes. This year, the theme was ‘Meme Pajama Party’. Students and faculties let out their creative skills to create or recreate a meme in their pajamas. They were also encouraged to set up a background that pertains to their concepts.
The night started off with a bang as we were greeted by our very own energetic and lovable hosts, Nar Angelo Ramos and Julia Marie Abugotal. Both presenters are third year students of the Physical Therapy Department. There was not a moment of dead silence as they were announcing and explaining the festivities of the night. The first activity of the evening was a video presentation of a past acquaintance party. The current third and fourth years got to relive one of the most memorable moments of being part of the Jaguar family back to when we were able to hold the event in a physical area. This was followed by a small introduction of the CRS faculty, which gave an opportunity for everyone to know the current staff that were in attendance. As we are a growing department, there will always be new faces and personalities in the section with a fresh school year. Shortly after, the judging of the Tiktok contest began. There were many creative submissions that showcased our department's talents, ranging from comedic acts to make-up skills, and to even dancing and singing. The short clips display the vast talents that the CRS community possesses.
The SBO and events committee assured that everyone was able to participate and gave them a chance to feel like a superstar and steal the spotlight. The PT and OT Q&A, that followed soon after, granted each student a chance to show off their intellectual capabilities and earn bragging rights. The questions given were tailored to each level that showed just how sharp and proficient they were.
The next activity introduced our Student Body Organization team through a game that we all know and love: WHO’S THAT POKEMON. Though it was a very short and quick game, our hosts did not let us down by making it more entertaining and fun. Our student emcees made sure that all students were engaged the whole time. Their sense of humor gave way to an enjoyable and momentous festivity.
As the night grew on with much joy and laughter, the CRS acquaintance party was starting to make segway to its main event of the night; the breakout rooms, which was the event that enabled students to become more involved and meet others in a more personal way. Each room consists of a leader and an assistant that will guide the program and take charge of the group that occupies the virtual space. During the time in the breakout room, each student got to introduce themselves and play games that, hopefully, not only created a bond with one another, but lasting memories. One of the games that were played was a song guessing game. The members are tasked to figure out what song is being played. There were many genres in the contest, from nostalgic to hip and trendy tunes. With the variety of genres, each player had a chance to participate and answer to their favorite track. With this, members can recognize what kinds of genres that they preferred based on the songs that they have guessed correctly.
With the party coming to an end, it was finally time to announce the winners of the Tiktok contest and figure out who had come up with the best pajama/meme combo. The polling was done through Google Forms. All the students were able to pick their favorite short clips and costumes. The winner with the most creative get-up was second year PT student, Derek Densing. For the most creative and wow-inducing Tiktok was first year OT student, May Gales. Gales gave effort to create a makeup look and video that blew our minds. Congrats to the winners! At last, there was only one more activity left in the program, which was the oath taking of our SBO officers that was inducted by Sir Paul Canoy. A remarkable moment, as each of the SBO officers raised their right hand and pledged to perform their utmost best to govern and give each student the college experience they all thought would be despite the pandemic. I speak for all of us when I say thank you, SBO officers and events committee, for all your hardwork and dedication to pull off an event as such, in spite of the current circumstances. We are all looking forward to what you will do next and accomplish this school year.
