“Happy Valentine’s Day!” is a greeting we usually hear or read during the 14th day of February, annually. This is a celebration of affection that is shown to one another as a symbol of love. But where did Valentine’s Day come from? Let’s take a peak on the history of Valentine’s.
Valentine’s Day is originally called “St. Valentine’s Day” that originated in the roman festivals of Lupercalia. Although there were many legends stated, claimed to be the true etiology of Valentine’s, the origin of this celebration is vague. Some legends stated that it came from a priest named St. Valentine, who defied the emperor and secretly married couples in order to spare men from war—the reason why it was associated with love. Valentine’s in our country has been a long-time tradition of giving gifts and letters to our loved ones. It was merely thought to be a “couple’s day” but it wasn’t just that. This is a day to show more extra love, not just to your partners, but also to your family and friends. This is the time when streets are seen with roses, malls and restaurants are into red and pinkish decorations and social media are filled with hearts. But Valentine’s is also a filled reviewer, an empty cup of coffee and a sleepless night to the students of Liceo de Cagayan University.
February 14, 2022 is the first day of the preliminary examinations of Liceo de Cagayan University. This includes the department of College of Rehabilitation and Sciences. We can see that through social media posts of the students, especially our Jaguars, regarding how they’d celebrate Valentine’s day. Some are studying, reviewing, and taking their exams. But the examinations can’t stop a heart that’s full of love in showing to the people what Valentine’s really means. The examinations can’t stop us from showering kisses to our parents and sending messages and gifts to our friends and partners. Most of all, this Valentine’s day and everyday is a chance for us to thank God for the love He has for us, for another celebration and another day to be with the people we love.
Don’t forget to tell yourself how much you love you because Valentine’s also means loving you. Always remember that everyday is Valentine's day—a day to show love and give love. Best of luck on the rest of the examinations, Jaguars! Believe in yourselves because you can and you will! Happy Heart’s Day!
